Title: The London Restoration
Author: Rachel McMillan
Release Date: August 18th, 2020
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Synopsis:
In post-World War II London, determined to save their marriage and the city they love, two people divided by World War II’s secrets rebuild their lives, their love, and their world.
London, Fall 1945. Architectural historian Diana Somerville’s experience as a codebreaker at Bletchley Park and her knowledge of London’s churches intersect in MI6’s pursuit of a Russian agent named Eternity. Diana wants nothing more than to begin again with her husband Brent after their separation during the war, but her signing of the Official Secrets Act keeps him at a distance.
Brent Somerville, professor of theology at King’s College, hopes aiding his wife with her church consultations will help him better understand why she disappeared when he needed her most. But he must find a way to reconcile his traumatic experiences as a stretcher bearer on the European front with her obvious lies about her wartime activities and whereabouts.
My Review:
The London Restoration is an intriguing historical fiction that’s mysterious, secretive, and romantic. It is set during and after the WWII era and the author did an amazing job with the history of the time period. The author showcased the ups and downs a relationship faces before and after war.
Diana and Brent were both affected by the war and handle it in their own ways. We see how Brent suffers from nightmares and Diana feels guilty for keeping secrets. Their love is the bond that keeps them together and gives them hope that they can make it. I really liked the flashback scenes as they added a backstory that was so perfect for Diana and Brent’s story and to help readers understand their decisions.
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I give The London Restoration 4 stars. Diana and Brent are a great and well developed pair. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a historical fiction that’s rich in history with well developed characters.
